The Tax Preparer/Asset-Building Counselor (CASW III) will assist in the implementation of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funded programs offered at all 21 FamilySource Centers. Specifically, the CASW III will work with low-income working families to increase their financial well being by promoting the Earned Income Tax Credit and other federal and state credits and by providing free income tax preparation and access to financial products and information. Responsibilities to include but are not limited to:
- Comprehensive Customer Service
- Tax Preparation (December 2009 to April 2010)
- Asset Building Counselor (April to September 2010)
Minimum Requirements
- Resident of the City of Los Angeles
- Minimum of 2-4 years of relevant tax preparation experience with an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in related field or previous equivalent experience as a tax preparer
- Advanced level tax knowledge required; tax software training will be provided
- Proficiency or the ability to obtain proficiency in the TaxWise software program
- Strong organizational and verbal/written communication skills
- Excellent work ethic and proven ability to multitask
- Hands-on experience working with the public and individuals with various cultural and economic backgrounds and abilities; must be friendly, dependable and flexible
- Operational knowledge of the Internet and web-related technologies; Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word; Windows Operating System
- Valid California Driver’s license and proof of valid auto insurance
- Willingness to travel and provide tax preparation assistance at various sites throughout the City of Los Angeles
- Spanish fluency preferred
CDD CASW Application Process
Submit a CASW APPLICATION, proof of income documentation, and a resume to the CDD, Human Resources Division, 1200 W. 7th Street, 4th Floor, Los Angeles, CA 90017. CASW Applications may also be obtained at one of the FamilySource Centers.
Filing Deadline
Applications must be received by 5:00 pm Monday, November 30, 2009.

a City application to Community Development Department, Human
Resources Division, 1200 West 7th, Los Angeles,
CA 90017. Filing may close without prior notice any time after
sufficient applications are received. For administrative purposes,
filing will close periodically and reopen the following workday.

Selection Process
The selection process shall consist of a three-step evaluation.
Step 1: All applications will be reviewed to determine if candidates meet the listed requirements.
Step 2: Each qualifying candidate's personal and professional qualifications, as delineated in his or her application, will be reviewed for qualifications relative to those of the other candidates.
Step 3: The candidates who present qualifications, which most closely match those necessary for the position, will be invited to interview. The interview will assess the candidate's experience and personal/professional development as they pertain to the necessary skills, knowledge and abilities needed for the position. Appointment is subject to background review and clearance.
